How About Notoriety for Baseball's Worst?

August 23, 1986

Since major league baseball is so fond of recognizing statistics, even negative ones, I would like to propose that the baseball writers and disgruntled fans everywhere be allowed to give recognition to the truly worst fielding players at each position in both leagues. I would propose they call them the Lead Glove awards, and the same criteria used to figure their golden opposites would be the basis of evaluation.

It would give sorry fielding teams like the Dodgers exactly the kind of attention they deserve, and it might even help elevate mediocre players to celebrity status in beer commercials and the like.
