August 27, 1986|From Reuters

BOGOTA, Colombia — A new wave of guerrilla violence in Colombia has killed 25 people, including 10 soldiers who were ambushed on patrol, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

The attacks came less than three weeks into the new administration of President Virgilio Barco Vargas, who has pledged to pacify the violence-ridden country.

The Defense Ministry said the 10 soldiers were killed Monday in southwestern Cauca province by leftist rebels of the self-styled America Battalion. Thirteen guerrillas and two soldiers died in other clashes in two other provinces and in the city of Cali.
