Weekend Sports Rundown

August 30, 1986|STEVE LINAN

With the U.S. Tennis Open being courted by both CBS and the USA cable network this weekend, the advantage clearly goes to viewers.

CBS' extensive coverage from Flushing Meadow, N.Y., starts at 11:30 a.m. today and runs until 5 p.m. (2)(8). USA cable will serve up the early-round action from 4:30 to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, CBS will cover the tournament from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. while USA again will carry the play from 4:30 to 8 p.m.

Those who prefer watching tennis in lieu of playing it on Labor Day can catch more of the U.S. Open tournament as it continues Monday on CBS from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As for football fans, there are a couple of games on tap today. First comes the Miami vs. South Carolina contest at 5 p.m. on ESPN cable. Then the Houston Oilers and Dallas Cowboys will play their final preseason game at 6 p.m. (2)(8).

In the sixth running of the Arlington Million, an international field of 14 thoroughbreds will be competing on NBC's "SportsWorld" Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (36)(39) and 3:30 p.m. (4).
