What are "outdoor sports?" The Times' sports section seems to have a very narrow definition of the term: The attempt to kill wild animals and fish.
Southern Californians use our public lands for a tremendous variety of activities: From hiking to hang-gliding, rock-climbing to river-rafting, and from bird-watching to foot races up Mt. Baldy. Yet, Earl Gustkey ignores all of these and does nothing but promote hunting and fishing.
Editor's note: Gustkey has, from time to time, written stories on hiking, hang-gliding, rock- and mountain-climbing, and river-rafting, not to mention boardsailing, surfing and a variety of other outdoor activities. He may even get around to foot races up Mt. Baldy some day.
