Those Nifty '50s

August 31, 1986

I loved Wanda Urbanska's review of "God's Country: America in the 1950s" and "Private Lives: Men and Women of the 1950s" (View, Aug. 14).

Being "a few years" shy of 50, I can identify well with that naive era when "pot" was something your mother cooked with, and "cutting the grass" required a real lawn mower. Furthermore, I was fortunate to have grown up in Southern California, where drive-in restaurants ate up our allowances.

I had no say in the matter of when I was born, but if I had my choice, I'd still prefer to grow up in those "nifty '50s."
