Santa Fe Southern Pacific petitioned the ICC.

September 03, 1986

The railroad company asked the Interstate Commerce Commission to reconsider its rejection of the proposed merger of the two railroads owned by the company. The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe and the Southern Pacific railroads are the two main subsidiaries of the company, which was created in 1983 by the $2.6-billion merger of Santa Fe Industries and Southern Pacific Transportation Co. The company said it will ask the commission to consider new evidence that could show how competitive damage caused by the proposed merger could be lessened.
