The governor of the Turkish province of Kars barred former U.S. astronaut James Irwin from climbing the northern face of Mt. Ararat in an expedition searching for Noah's Ark, the Turkish news agency Hurriyet reported. Gov. Hakki Boratas said that Irwin and his team of climbers have permission to climb the southern face of the mountain, in eastern Turkey, the news agency said. Irwin had told reporters in Ankara that his expedition hoped to search for the ark in the vicinity of a gorge on the mountain's northern face.
