Covina : Downtown Study OKd

September 04, 1986

The City Council has authorized a study to determine if the downtown area should be included in Covina's revitalization redevelopment program. Mike Marquez, the city's director of community development, said officials are concerned about the deterioration of public walkways, alleys and streets and will consider improving building facades and providing more public parking to draw shoppers to the area.

The area to be studied includes properties along Citrus Avenue from Cypress Street south to Center Street, and from 3rd Avenue east to 2nd Avenue. The Covina Redevelopment Agency will conduct the study, which will include an analysis of land use, demographic characteristics and financial estimates, Marquez said.

The Planning Commission will also formulate a preliminary plan which, if adopted, would pave the way for the use of redevelopment money and federal community block grants to improve the downtown area.
