Sid Tanenbaum, 60, former pro basketball player with the New York Knicks who starred at New York University in the 1940s, was fatally stabbed in New York.

Tanenbaum was in his office at the Able Metal Spinning and Stamping Corp., a firm he owned in the Far Rockaway section of Queens, when the attack occurred.

Police said robbery was "strongly suspected," and a steak knife was recovered at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a woman fleeing the premises shortly after the incident.
