OUTTAKES

Casting Around

September 07, 1986|Craig Modderno

Ex-KGB agent David McCallum brainwashes ex-CIA agent Robert Vaughn and gets him to "Say Uncle!" That's the title of the "A-Team" episode now shooting with the buddy stars of the old "Man From U.N.C.L.E." "A-Team" producer John Ashley said McCallum was cast opposite Vaughn, a new series regular, because of the hefty ratings of the recent "Return of 'Man From U.N.C.L.E.' " . . . Bruce Dern plays the mentor of some young Chicago dice-throwers (Matt Dillon is one) in the '50s in the film drama "The Arm," now shooting in Chicago. . . . Nick Nolte will do the De Laurentiis film "Weeds." Nolte plays a convict who gets paroled and takes a play he's written on the road with fellow inmates. . . . Hired assassin Philip Anglin will stalk Burt Reynolds in "Malone," now shooting in Vancouver. . . . Kenny Rogers Jr. will make his acting debut as a punk rock musician in the syndicated TV series "THROB." He'll also sing one of his original songs.

Due to dumbness on our part, we erroneously asserted in our Casting Around (Sept. 7) that when Kenny Rogers Jr. does an episode of "THROB," he'll sing one of his own compositions. Fact is, he corrected us, the song was written by Tena Clark, the series' music director.
