Racism

September 07, 1986

In Patrick Goldstein's article about director Spike Lee's new movie "She's Gotta Have It," Lee is quoted as saying, "I don't think there's a black person in America that doesn't hate the Celtics. . . ."

Why is that so? Is it OK for blacks to hate the Celtics just because many of their star players are whites? Lee should have said that many Americans, both black and white, hate the Celtics.

Would The Times have quoted a white director as saying that there isn't a white person in America who doesn't hate the Lakers? I don't think so.

Such a statement is wrong no matter who it comes from. All racism is wrong. Let's make all racists explain themselves so that their poor logic is exposed to the world.
