A private rocket company has been given permission to launch an orbiting mausoleum from NASA's launch site at Wallops Island, Va., a company spokesman said. Houston-based Space Services Inc. plans next year to launch the first of three space tombs containing the cremated remains of about 10,000 people, the spokesman said. The human remains will be contained in metal capsules in a satellite that will be put into a 1,500-mile orbit. The Department of Transportation last month cleared the way for private companies to sell space launch services.
