The World : Israeli Jets Attack Sidon

September 10, 1986

Israeli warplanes attacked Palestinian guerrilla bases on the southern outskirts of Lebanon's port city of Sidon, and at least six people were wounded, Lebanese police reported. The attack on the guerrilla positions, including a base and weapons depot, was preceded by helicopter reconnaissance sorties in which flares were dropped over the city and the Palestinian refugee camp of Ein el Hilwa, police said. An Israeli military spokesman confirmed the raid and said that the base had been used for operations against Israel.
