The World : 12 More Freed in Pakistan

September 11, 1986

Pakistan freed 12 more opposition politicians, including Tikka Khan, secretary general of Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party. Khan was released after 29 days' detention. Bhutto--freed from jail Monday--consulted leaders of the 10-party Movement for the Restoration of Democracy about an anti-government campaign they threaten to launch if President Zia ul-Haq fails by Sept. 20 to set a date for elections this year. Political sources said that Bhutto discussed extending the deadline, but no decision was reached.
