The United States is seeking British approval to station elite Delta Force commandos in Britain to speed up its military response to hijacking and hostage-taking, London's Sunday Telegraph said. The request followed the recent hijacking of an Pan Am jumbo jet in Karachi, Pakistan, to which the Delta Force failed to arrive in time to help the passengers, the newspaper said. British government sources told the newspaper that Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is likely to agree to the request.
