Infectious listeria bacteria have been discovered in a Latin-style soft cheese, known as Cuajada Salvedorna, that was sold by Liborio Market in Los Angeles, the state Department of Health Services reported. The department said the contaminated cheese was detected as a result of intensified inspections by the state Department of Food and Agriculture, rather than because of any reports of illness. Health officials said consumers should not buy or eat the cheese, which, it said, was not manufactured in a licensed California cheese plant and may have been illegally imported.
