Realities

September 18, 1986

The Challenger disaster tears at our hearts. Chernobyl is a tragedy of human suffering. The exploitation of our rain forests, the greenhouse effect on our atmosphere, the depletion of the ozone layer are insidiously destroying our home, the Earth.

The platitudes of officialdom and the cool language of the media do not measure up to the magnitude of these events. They do not speak to their human meaning. They lead us nowhere.

Where are the statesmen and the true spirits that will speak for the people? We need to be unnumbed and directed toward concern. Realities must not be buried under apathy.
