September 18, 1986|Associated Press

TRIESTE, Italy — A fire engine on an emergency call collided with a bus Wednesday in downtown Trieste, injuring 50 people, news reports said.

The collision stunned the bus driver and he lost control of the vehicle, which kept going. But another bus driver realized what had happened and jumped aboard the bus through doors that had popped open on impact, and safely stopped it, the reports said.
