September 22, 1986|from Associated Press

Rain fell over much of the nation's midsection Sunday, and one man drowned in Minnesota as rain swelled creeks and rivers.

More than five inches fell in southeastern Minnesota, prompting officials to evacuate about 210 people from Rochester and St. Charles. A man drowned in St. Charles while inspecting a flooded culvert for the city, authorities said.
