By voice vote, the House Ways and Means Committee agreed on $3.6 billion worth of new revenue-raising proposals, including a 0.5% of cargo value fee on imported goods, which will become part of a $15.5-billion package of deficit-reduction moves the House is due to consider this week. The measures augment $2.8 billion in revenue proposals the panel had previously approved. The committee rejected an amendment for an excise tax on imported crude oil.
