Paul Newman escaped injury when his race car spun out of control and into a center barrier during a practice run during a rain storm at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn. Newman had been giving tennis star Ivan Lendl rides around the track before the accident, said Bob Sharp, Newman's partner. Lendl was not in the car when the accident occurred, Sharp said.
