The University of Minnesota said that eight football players committed ticket distribution violations under an NCAA audit covering last season.

In a report Friday's Minneapolis Star and Tribune, Paul Giel, the men's athletic director, would not release the names of the players.

The players admitted to violating an NCAA rule that forbids them from giving complimentary football tickets to anyone but their parents, legal guardians, a relative or a student attending the university.
