ASAT Missile Passes Test--Star Was Target

WASHINGTON — The United States successfully conducted its fifth test of an anti-satellite weapon today but complied with a congressional ban against firing it at a satellite by using a star as a target, the Pentagon said.

An F-15 fighter from Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., launched the two-stage ASAT missile over the Western Test Range at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., a Pentagon statement said.
