Sanctions Against South Africa

October 13, 1986

"The Gipper" has finally lost one. No amount of posturing, rhetoric, arm-twisting or any other ploy would convince the legislators that apartheid as a national policy of the Union of South Africa could or would be supported by the United States of America.

After showing the world that what he says and what he does is as different as night from day (witness his handling of the Nicholas Daniloff affair), Reagan has once again spoken with a forked tongue.

And to the leaders of South Africa who govern a nation of 4 million whites and 17 million blacks, does the name General Custer mean anything?
