America's Cup Trials : Kookaburra III Wins, Boosts Record to 5-0

FREMANTLE, Australia — The Taskforce syndicate's Kookaburra III, with Iain Murray as skipper, remained undefeated Wednesday after the completion of the first round of the America's Cup Series A defender trials.

Kookaburra III boosted its record to 5-0 for five points, defeating South Australia, with John Savage as skipper, by 6 minutes 43 seconds.

Australia IV, with Colin Beashel at the helm, also won, beating its Alan Bond syndicate stablemate, Australia III, with Gordon Lucas at the helm, by 3:07. Australia IV has four points with a 4-1 record.

Kookaburra II is 3-2, Australia III 2-3, South Australia 1-4 and Steak 'n Kidney 0-5.

The second round of the defender elimination Series A will start Friday, highlighted by a rematch between Kookaburra III and Australia IV.
