DAMASCUS, Syria — Six or seven British diplomats left Damascus on Thursday for Jordan on their way home, after last week's break in relations between Syria and Britain, diplomatic officials said.

Ambassador Roger Tomkys and the rest of his staff of 19 diplomats are due to fly home direct from Damascus today.

Syrian officials said that Syria's ambassador in London, Loutof Allah Haydar, and his staff are expected back in Damascus today.

Britain broke diplomatic ties with Damascus after saying Syrian diplomats were implicated in court testimony in an attempt by Jordanian Nezar Hindawi to blow up an Israeli airliner last April.
