POP EYE

November 02, 1986|PATRICK GOLDSTEIN

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: The fabulously droll John Lurie, leader of jazz-coolsters the Lounge Lizards and co-star of the current Jim Jarmusch film "Down by Law," has words of wisdom for any pop stars salivating about the prospect of branching into acting. Lurie, who recently turned down a guest-shot on "Miami Vice" ("I don't wanna turn into Elliott Gould or something"), explained: "I'm not out begging for roles. I'm not 'practicing my craft.' The worst actors you see are people who have all this spare time to develop a respect for acting. That can be really dangerous. The music is actually the one thing that's saved my acting."
