The State

November 02, 1986

Calaveras County investigators hunted for a motive in three "execution-style" slayings that took place in a rural subdivision. The victims, who were shot repeatedly outside a camper trailer in Valley Springs, were identified as David Miller, his wife, Donna Miller, 36, both from West Valley City, Utah, and Dennis Hiebe of Bennion, Utah. The suspect fled shortly after the shootings in a red 1979 Ford Mustang II, apparently stolen from the victims. The car was later discovered wrecked on California 26 near Escalon in San Joaquin County. A submachine gun was found in the car, according to Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputy Jim Stenquist, who said there was no obvious motive for the killings.
