A contract for the design of a new pier for the U. S. Naval Station in San Diego has been awarded to Cash & Associates Engineers of Long Beach.
The Navy says it will use the agreement as a prototype for future contracts involving engineering services related to the identification of asbestos in existing utility systems.
Med-Tox Associates Inc. of Tustin and San Diego was chosen to provide necessary expertise for identification of asbestos and development of specifications for its eventual abatement by the contractor.
Construction of the pier, known as Berthing/Repair Pier 12, is expected to begin in early 1988 with completion in 1989. Cash & Associates will be assisted on the project by Moffatt & Nichol Engineers & Sparvan Inc., also of Long Beach; Geofon Inc. of Cypress, and A. Lambert & Associates of San Diego.
