Woman Clings to Life After Setting Self Afire

November 04, 1986|Associated Press

SHREVEPORT, La. — A young woman who set herself afire on a city street was reported to be in extremely critical condition Monday with burns over more than 90% of her body.

Sherri Marshall, 19, of Monroe, apparently had doused herself with gasoline before she approached a passer-by on Sunday and told him she was burning inside and wanted to burn on the outside. She then used a cigarette lighter to ignite the gasoline, police said.
