Firefighters Save Library Books

November 07, 1986

Quick action by firefighters in Santa Monica today saved $13 million worth of library books from a blaze in a neighboring warehouse, authorities said.

No injuries were reported, but the 2 a.m. blaze in a two-story building at 1610 26th St. caused $150,000 in damages, fire dispatchers said. About half of the books from the Santa Monica Public Library, which is being remodeled due to asbestos problems, were being stored next door in a warehouse and were undamaged.
