Southern Section Tennis : Corona del Mar Wins in 4-A

Second-seeded Corona del Mar High School defeated San Gorgonio Thursday, 18-0, in a first-round Southern Section 4-A tennis match at Corona del Mar. Corona del Mar meets Dana Hills, which defeated Canyon, 16-2, in the second round.

In other first-round 4-A action:

Senior Margo Mullally swept her singles matches to lead Newport Harbor to a 10-7 victory over Capistrano Valley.

Santa Ana tied Rubidoux, 9-9, but advanced on the basis of games won, 76-75. Santa Ana will play third-seeded Edison, which defeated Mission Viejo, 13-5.

Marina only lost one singles match as it defeated Redondo, 13-5. Marina will play Rolling Hills, which beat Estancia, 10-8. El Toro also advanced by beating Riverside Poly, 15-3.

Two other Orange County teams lost in 4-A play. South Torrance beat Foothill, 10-8, and Palos Verdes defeated Fountain Valley, 13-5.

In 3-A first-round play:

Julie Willett defeated previously unbeaten Kelli Moore to lead Woodbridge to a 10-8 victory over Los Alamitos. Laguna Beach's Mindy Leach, who lost to Willett in the Pacific Coast League singles final Wednesday, won all her singles matches as Artists defeated Millikan, 12-6.

Laguna Hills won all nine singles matches as it beat Cypress, 15-3.

In 2-A first-round action:

Second-seeded Indio defeated Brea-Olinda, 15-3, at Palm Valley Country Club. Fourth-seeded Valencia beat visiting Los Amigos, 10-8, and Garden Grove advanced with a 10-8 victory over Whitney.
