Aircraft Relocations

November 09, 1986

I found myself in agreement with Steven Meyers on one point--that the idea was "very interesting." As to his comment that this approach would pay off big for Los Alamitos, let me make certain facts very clear.

Because of the continuing importance of the military mission at Los Alamitos, the City Council, some years ago, amended the General Plan and its land-use element to expressly prohibit commercial or general aviation at the Armed Forces Reserve Center. This position of no joint use has been validated over and over again, not only by the Los Alamitos community and elected officials, but also by elected officials from neighboring cities, as well as our county supervisor.

For many years we have enjoyed excellent community relations with our military representatives, and together we will continue to place a high priority on maintaining an effective good neighbor policy.

I hope these few remarks make abundantly clear our community's strong policy of resisting any attempts that might conceivably compromise the basic mission of the military installations at Los Alamitos.

ANTHONY R. SELVAGGI

Mayor, City of Los Alamitos
