Stab Victim Not Linked to Serial Killer

November 12, 1986

The 33-year-old transient who bled to death when a "guillotine"-like plate of glass nearly cut off his right leg was identified as Donald Raphael Brown, police said. Brown had kicked out the glass from the bottom of the door of a garment-district clothing store Sunday night, in an apparent burglary attempt, police said. When he stepped through the hole, the remaining glass dropped, almost shearing off his leg above the knee. He dragged himself more than half a block before he died. Records indicated that Brown, an apparent newcomer to Los Angeles, had been sentenced to jail and probation for furnishing marijuana, and had been arrested twice this year on suspicion of robbery.
