Tribble Seized for Speeding, Drunk Driving

November 12, 1986|United Press International

WASHINGTON — Brian Tribble, the man accused of supplying the cocaine that killed University of Maryland basketball star Len Bias, was arrested Tuesday on speeding and drunk driving charges, authorities said.

Tribble, 24, was driving on a Washington street about 3:15 a.m. when police clocked him going more than 50 m.p.h. in a 30 m.p.h. zone, said Sgt. David Thompson, a spokesman for the District of Columbia police department.

Thompson said Tribble also failed to pass a sobriety test.

Tribble, a former Maryland junior-varsity basketball player, was scheduled to go on trial Nov. 17 on various drug and obstruction of justice charges in connection with Bias' death June 19 in his university dorm room.

But Tribble's attorney, Thomas Morrow, filed a motion last week to postpone the proceedings, charging that "prejudicial publicity" made it impossible for Tribble to receive a fair trial.

Prince George's County Circuit Judge James Rea has not yet made a decision whether to delay the trial.
