Chris Brown of the San Francisco Giants, who was contending for the National League batting lead before being forced out of the lineup in September, will undergo shoulder surgery later this week.

Giants' President Al Rosen said that arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday disclosed a partially detached bicep tendon in the third baseman's left shoulder.

Dr. Frank Jobe told Roser that the injury was not only extraordinary but almost undetectable by x-rays or arthrograms.
