Nugget Point Wins Hollypark Feature

Nugget Point, ridden by Gary Stevens, held off favored Lofty through the final furlong Thursday to win by a head in the $40,000 feature race for older horses at Hollywood Park.

Lofty, ridden by Laffit Pincay, finished second, a half-length in front of Pudahuel, ridden by Octavio Vergara, in a field of eight horses, 3-year-olds and up.

Nugget Point, who earned $22,000 for the victory, was clocked in 1.47 1-5 for 1 1/8 miles over a firm turf course and paid $9.40, $3.20 and $2.60. Lofty returned $3.20 and $3 and Pudahuel paid $5 to show.

The victory on Nugget Point was the fourth of the day for Stevens.
