In seven games, Jack Ramsay has found out something about his Indiana Pacers.

"The characteristic of this team is that they won't give up," Ramsay said. "This was our first road win, and because we play 9 of our first 13 on the road, it was real important."

Wayman Tisdale came off the bench for 24 points and 14 rebounds as the Pacers rallied from 16 points down to a 120-117 overtime victory over the New Jersey Nets Thursday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

Tisdale grabbed a rebound and hit a short shot to tie the game, 112-112, with 3:45 left in overtime. He put Indiana ahead for good 32 seconds later by grabbing his own missed shot and scoring.

Chuck Person and John Long, who scored 26 points, added long jumpers to cap an 8-0 surge, giving Indiana a 118-112 lead.

"When we came back from 16 down and sent it into overtime I was confident we'd win," Tisdale said.

San Antonio 115, Cleveland 102--Reserve Mychal Thompson scored 23 points to lead the Spurs past the Cavaliers at San Antonio.

Thompson entered the game late in the first period with San Antonio trailing, 30-23, and led a 25-6 scoring surge that put the Spurs ahead, 48-36, with seven minutes left in the second quarter.

Golden State 112, Philadelphia 104--Larry Smith scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in the decisive third period at Oakland as the Warriors snapped the 76ers' winning streak at four games.

Smith, a defensive and rebounding specialist averaging 3.2 points a game, was scoreless other than his third-period outburst, but grabbed 19 rebounds.
