Take Steps to Last Century at Colorado Ski Lodge

November 23, 1986|MICHAEL CARLTON | Carlton is a Denver Post travel columnist.

Compared to most ski resort prices, Ski Tip is a positive bargain. In the May-through-early-November off-season, rates are $53 for one person, $81 for two for a room with a shared bath, $63 and $96 for a private bath. Winter rates are $89 and $95 for a room with a shared bath, $102 and $130 with bath. Included in the price is a full breakfast and a four-course dinner that is simply splendid.

In winter, Keystone's cross-country ski center is only about 100 feet away, and the downhill area is about a mile down the road. In summer the Snake River provides fishing, there are trails to be hiked, a beaver to be watched as it swims across the pond, and tennis.

Keystone, a fine ski village with shops and restaurants, an ice skating rink and the largest night-lighted skiing hill in the United States, awaits just two miles away. Shuttle buses run hourly to Ski Tip from Keystone Village and the downhill ski runs.

But most of you, I suspect, will probably spend little time in Keystone. Most of you, probably, will be content to remain snuggled in Ski Tip, in another century, another time.
