S. F. Springs Plans Market Study for Clarke Estate

December 04, 1986

SANTA FE SPRINGS — A market study to determine whether or not the city can support a conference center at the Marie Rankin Clarke Estate south of the Civic Center was ordered last week by the City Council.

The council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, allocated $17,000 for the study by a Los Angeles-based consulting firm to provide information city officials will need to decide on possible uses of the site.

The six-acre estate, shielded from surrounding development by dense foliage, was purchased by the city for $2 million. The estate--which includes a house designed by renowned architect Irving Gill--is named after its first owner, who was one of the founders of the Hollywood Bowl.
