Compromise Tax

December 07, 1986

After reading about the pros and cons of an oil import tax, I believe that a compromise might be in order. Specifically, why not levy a low tax on imported oil, and couple that with a federal sales tax on gasoline?

These measures would help reduce the federal deficit, encourage conservation, help our own oil-producing states and not reduce economic growth or hurt our economy.
