Mike Wunderley, who guided Valley Christian High School to its first Southern Section title, was chosen Southeast coach of the year at the annual Times football awards brunch Sunday at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel.
Faced with the loss of five two-way starters early in the season, Wunderley directed a team that beat Carpinteria High, 10-7, for the Inland Conference title. Valley Christian finished 12-1.
Ben Trujillo, a two-way tackle at Bell Gardens, was chosen Southeast lineman of the year.
Defensive back-wide receiver Kelvin Means of St. John Bosco was selected Southeast back of the year. The Braves went 13-1 and advanced to the championship game of the Big Five Conference.
Larry Anderson of Lynwood High was named South Coast coach of the year. He led Lynwood to the playoff semifinals.
Kojuan Williams of Paramount was chosen South Coast back of the year. Williams threw for 20 touchdowns and ran for 11.
Bruce Roos of Artesia High was selected South Coast lineman of the year.
