During the past few weeks any number of political pundits, including The Times' editorial writers, have urged the President to purge himself of various members of his policy-making staff in order to regain his creditability.
Don't get me wrong, I understand their thinking behind this advice. However, a sports-minded friend of mine continually reminds me that when a team gets itself into trouble, it is the coach they sack, and not the team.
