Housing

December 22, 1986

This letter is in reference to the proposed limit on the number of people who can legally occupy an apartment. While it is well-intentioned, it would have disastrous consequences for some families. A friend of mine has six children and makes $650 a month. They live in a one-room single, which is all they can afford. If this ordinance is passed, they would be forced onto the street since they cannot pay $600 a month for a two-bedroom apartment.

While it is important to reduce overcrowded living quarters, it is more important to have a place to live.
