Landscape Contractors Choose Winners : Twelve Projects in Los Angeles County Selected for Awards

January 04, 1987

Los Angeles County landscapes captured 12 awards from a total of 233 projects submitted throughout the state for the 1986 judging by the California Landscape Contractors Assn.

The judges, according to the association's executive director, Sharon McGuire, spent two weeks visiting every site in California to name winners for each of 26 residential and commercial categories, plus eight major awards.

The Sweepstakes Trophy, the association's highest honor, went to Landscape Resources Inc. of Fallbrook for its installation at Brookside Farms West, a residential estate and race horse training facility in Bonsall (San Diego County). The firm landscaped eight acres in a 170-foot deep ravine, introducing meandering streams and cascading waterfalls, ponds and picnic area.

The association also honored California Landscape Inc. of Canoga Park with three trophies. The firm took first place for interiorscape work at the Montebello Town Center and honors for work at Allison Plaza in Woodland Hills and the Litton Data Command facility in Agoura Hills.

Cal West Nurseries, Yorba Linda, won two first-place awards for work done at Oakridge at the High Country in Diamond Bar.

Four additional awards were given for Los Angeles landscapes. Sheridan Landscape Inc. of Sun Valley won first place for work on the Gloudeman residence in Flintridge, and American Landscape Inc. of Canoga Park was the winner in the public works category for Roxburg Park in Beverly Hills.

Tom Matsouka Landscape Co., Pasadena, received an Outstanding Achievement award for renovation of the McCluer residence in Pasadena, and Professional Landscape Corp., Upland, gained the Outstanding Achievement award in the model homes category for Hunter's Hill in Walnut.
