Couple Asphyxiated in Car

January 06, 1987

The bodies of a man and a woman were found in a car parked with the engine running this morning by a jogger in Arroyo Seco Park, next to the Pasadena Freeway, police said. The couple apparently died accidentally when carbon monoxide from a faulty exhaust system leaked into the car while it was parked with its engine running to keep the heater going.

"Neither of them had injuries and there was no indication they were murdered," Los Angeles Police Sgt. Robert Suter said. "They were both fully clothed, and it appears they were just sitting talking with the windows closed." Both victims appeared to be in their late 30s and had been dead for several hours. Their identities were withheld until their families could be notified.
