Whittier : Magician's Public Spirit

January 08, 1987

Adam Christing is a magician, but it took more than a wave of his wand or snap of his fingers to pull off his lastest trick. He recently helped police apprehend a shoplifter who walked out of a Whittier Alpha Beta with two liquor bottles.

Christing, 22, was driving near the Uptown Village supermarket when he spotted the suspect running west on Comstock Avenue and being chased by two clerks, who appeared to be tiring. Christing joined the chase in his car, following the suspect for a quarter of a mile as he climbed fences and ran through alleys to an apartment building on Whittier Avenue. Christing then called police, who arrested the juvenile for petty theft.
