Pratt & Whitney cut 2,000 salaried workers.

January 12, 1987

The program of early retirement and voluntary terminations was instituted by the Hartford, Conn., jet engine producer to reduce payroll costs. The firm said it does not expect to make any layoffs as a result of the voluntary program. The cutbacks, which were announced in November when the firm said it wanted to cut its staff of 19,700 salaried workers, affected jobs at seven plants in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia and Maine.
