Jihad Warns on Islamic Summit

January 16, 1987|From Reuters

BEIRUT — Islamic Jihad delivered a photo of kidnaped U.S. journalist Terry A. Anderson today and warned Kuwait against going ahead with the Islamic summit due to open there Jan. 26.

"We warn everybody that we might, if the summit convenes, have to take negative action in which the biggest loser will be Kuwait's government, officials and institutions," said a statement by the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) group. The group's conditions for the release of Anderson--captured 22 months ago--and four other Western hostages it holds include freedom for 17 Arabs jailed in Kuwait for attacks on U.S., French and Kuwaiti targets in 1983.
