Friends of California Highway Patrol Officer Craig Peyer, accused of having strangled a young woman he had stopped for a traffic violation, rallied around him, calling him a good family man and neighbor and soliciting monetary donations to help his wife pay family bills while he awaits trial. Peyer, 36, was held without bail on a charge of having murdered Cara Knott, 20, whose body was found beside a frontage road near Interstate 15 in north San Diego County. "The Craig Peyer that is husband, father, son, friend and neighbor is incapable of committing such a heinous crime," said Gordon Kerr, who was acting as spokesman for about 30 of Peyer's friends in the Rancho Arbolitos district of Poway.
